Benijofar is a pleasant town located between the coast of the Costa Blanca and the mountains of the province of Alicante. Translated from Arabic, "benihofar" actually means "son of pearls", and it is not for nothing that it is called that. It is a pretty little village with a charming church, a modern square, a long main street and an abundance of tapas bars, cafes and restaurants as well as some interesting little shops. Every Tuesday morning there is a small street market and a flat circular walking route to the water wheel on the Rio Segura and El Secano Park. The town hall is very informative, the casa de cultura offers the occasional show or exhibition and the municipal sports center has an outdoor swimming pool and two tennis courts. Nearby is the urbanization area known as Benimar. Here are three iconic hillside crosses used during the Easter parades, and the lovely Cañada Marsa Park with lakes, plants, open spaces and some resident ducks! Next to the park are the very lively commercial centers of Benimar with a great selection of bars and restaurants. Thanks to its excellent accesses, you can reach Alicante airport in just 20 minutes, or enjoy the beaches of Guardamar or Torrevieja, in 15 minutes by car.
